Pistons
Stock replacement pistons are no longer available from WOT-Tech. The following is left for information purposes only.
Stock replacement hypereutectic pistons now feature a skirt coating, to reduce friction and heat. GM upgraded the #5 and #6 cylinders with skirt coated pistons on the minivans, but most 3400s never had the coated skirts, which should eliminate or at least reduce the piston slap noise common to a cold start.
The 3.4 Iron head pistons are listed as a high compression replacement, which will drop right in using the matching ring set. These 8cc dished pistons put a 3400 at 12.39:1 compression when using stock 3400 heads and head gaskets. When used with 3500 heads on the 3400 engine, they will net you 11.56:1 compression. Please note that these pistons are not skirt coated.
If you want the strongest piston for your 3400, Diamond offers a forged piston made from 2618 alloy, which is designed for less thermal expansion compared to the forged pistons of the past. These are also skirt coated for less friction and heat. 3 compression ratios are available "off the shelf", 9.5, 10.5, and 11.5:1 ratios. Off the shelf because they will be made and stocked once the first order is placed, and pricing reflects this already. Custom pistons are also available if your compression or bore size are not listed.
